Community
LU-CIX interacts with major actors and initiatives in the field of the Internet. This commitment allows LU-CIX to keep applying state-of-the art practices and keep in constant touch with its local and international ecosystem.
Technical community
Euro-IX
The European Internet Exchange Association (Euro-IX) gathers 69 IXPs from around the world. Its main goal is to develop, strengthen and improve the Internet Exchange Point (IXP) community. Euro-IX combines resources in order to coordinate technical standards, develop common procedures, share and publish statistics and other useful information to give interested parties a better insight into the world od IXPs.
On top of being a member of Euro-IX, LU-CIX also organised, in 2016, the Euro-IX Forum in Luxembourg.
RIPE NCC
RIPE NCC is the Regional Internet Registry for Europe, the Middle East and part of Central Asia. As such it allocates and registers blocks of Internet number resources to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other organisations.
RIPE NCC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that supports the RIPE (Réseaux IP Européens) community and the wider Internet community. The RIPE NCC membership consists mainly of Internet service providers, telecommunication organisations and other companies that manage their own network infrastructure.
LU-CIX is a member of RIPE NCC and supports it in organising from time to time RIPE classes in Luxembourg and associating it to the yearly LUNOG Conference. The LU-CIX team also actively participates to the RIPE meetings, taking place all over Europe.
MANRS
MANRS (Mutually Agreed Norms for Routing Security) is an industry initiative defining a set of guiding actions that help increase the security of routing on the Internet. The actions are bundled in specific programs for different parts of the Internet industry, namely for Internet exchanges, for network operators, and for CDN/cloud providers.
An important objective for connecting at an Internet Exchange Point is the increased security. It is certainly one of the topics that LU-CIX is actively pushing in the interest of its member community. After enabling RPKI filtering on our route servers earlier this year, LU-CIX has now successfully applied to become a participant in the MANRS programme of the ISOC (Internet Society).
With its participation in the MANRS program, LU-CIX demonstrates the importance it attaches to making the Internet a safer place, in this particular case by securing the routing and stopping certain attacks on it.
PISAX
PISAX is the Pan-European Information Sharing & Analysis for IXP and GRX platform. Created in 2020 by LU-CIX, POST Luxembourg, SECURITYMADEIN.LU and co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union, its goal is to create a Pan-European Information Sharing and Analysis Center (ISAC) to support:
- Internet Exchange Points (IXPs);
- GPRS Roaming Exchanges (GRXs) - Network infrastructure dedicated to mobile devices roaming connectivity.
PISAX allows IX and GRX community to share security information in order to help the community in facing cyber-threats, support faster reaction to Europe-wide attacks, facilitate CERT action and better protect the community.
